Get to know fellow AIGA Iowa members in this fun Q&A.
How long have you been a member?
I became a student member while in school at Iowa State University sometime in the 2001-2004 range. I joined as a professional member in 2005 and have been a member off and on ever since.
What is your current job?
I'm a Graphic Designer for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
What do you enjoy most about AIGA on the National level?
I like all of the resources the national chapter provides - their website is full of great content.
What do you enjoy most about the Iowa Chapter?
I enjoy the summer luncheon series and also anytime there is a software workshop. I love to learn new things!
Where do you find sources for design inspiration?
In the digital age we find ourselves in, it's hard NOT to find inspiration everywhere. I usually find inspiration in nature, blogs, smart product design and by surrounding myself with creative people.
What is your dream design job?
I think college is an extremely inspiring and energizing time for those in creative fields. Projects generally aren't as restricted by time, clients, or budgets - and that makes for some very creative work. I would love to teach new, young designers at the college level.
What designer is your favorite/most influential? Why?
I would hate to pick just one... While in school I always admired the work of Push Pin Studios and Milton Glaser. Glaser has had a profound impression on the field of graphic design and has always produced very smart and inspiring work.
If you were a PMS chip, which one would it be?
PMS 563 U — a muted blueish gray.
What is your favorite typeface and why?
My font preferences come and go — lately I am a big fan of Georgia. I like how the classic serifs balance with the slight roundness of each character.
